Home Economics - Quick & Easy Hot Cross Buns

Yesterday on the 27th we made quick 7 easy hot cross buns. The students I worked with were Tanaya and Rheanna.  The thing that our group did well was our measurement because our hot cross buns turned out well. The thing that our group could do better is spreading out the work loads we do because some people do more than other. Next time I would use plain flour instead of wholemeal flour because wholemeal flour is heaver so it didn't rise as well. I think that the hot cross buns tasted better than I thought they would.

Music - This is me

In music our class has been practising a musical performance to perform at the end of the term. The song that our class is going to perform is This is Me from The Greatest Showman. Our class has had about four practices and we have recently just finished the choreography.  I am enjoying being on stage and dancing because I like to muck around and perform. I don't think that I would change anything about this musical performance because it is  fun to do and because I don't have to sing any solos.  I am not sure what I am going to wear but I will probably wear something bright and different to what I would usually wear. I would also make sure it is something I could move around in

Home Economics - Cupcakes

Yesterday on the 20th of March we made cupcakes. The students I worked with were Ornaree, Kaela and Tanaya.  The thing that our group did well was following the method and our health and safety. The thing that our group could improve on next time is keeping to time because we were a bit slower than  we usually are. My best moment during the practical was making the icing because I liked watching the icing change colour.

Over the last few weeks our class has been studying the book Wonder. Here is all my work I have done:

August says he has an 'Aversion' to getting his picture taken.

Why? Because of what his face looks like & because people judge him about it.

What is something you have an aversion to?  Staying up late.

What was August's one wish that he wanted? If you could change one thing about your appearance what would it be? To change what he looked like. I don’t really think I would change anything.

What do you think it means to be ordinary? To be plain and just like everyone else

What makes August extraordinary? His personality

How do people react when they see Auggie's face for the first time?  Scared

How would you react?  I am not really sure.

August's dad said, "So sending him off to middle school like a lamb to the slaughter...." What does this mean? It means that he wouldn’t fit it and that people might bully him about it.

Would you send August to school if you were his mom or dad? Explain why or why not. Yes I would because he/she will need to get used to being proud of what they look like and how it doesn’t matter what you look like it just matters about your personality

What white lie did August's mum tell? Why did she do it? Are white lies ok to tell? A white lie is a lie that you think isn’t going to affect anyone. No lies are okay even a white lie is bad.

Auggie decided he liked Mrs. Garcia ‐ when she wasn’t wearing her shiny smile. What is a 'shiny smile'? A fake smile

How does Auggie know the first time he meets Julian that he will be a bully? What are some the ways that Julian bullies Auggie? How does Auggie respond? Because of the way he treats him

What score do you give this book out of 10? 9

2. Why doesn't August like school events that include parents? Because he gets bullied and his parents can be embarrassing  Do you like these kind of events? No not really

3. Maya left August a nice little note and August said, "Six months ago stuff like that would have never have happened, but now it happens more and more." Why do you think this is happening?

4. How did August feel about getting hearing aids? Was all the stressing out necessary?

5. Why did Via keep her part in the play a secret from her parents? Because she didn’t want August to go Why did Via's mum say the play wasn't something that August would be interested in? Because she didn’t want to say that he was the reason

6. August says, "I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.” What does he mean? That everyone deserves a standing ovation for at least one thing Do you agree? yes

7. How did everyone feel when Daisy died? Sad Have you ever had a pet die? Yes How did you feel? Sad Do you miss them? Yes

8. Do you think Miranda was really sick? No If not, why did she do it? Because no one came to see her and people came to see Via

9. After reading Miranda's part what did you think of her? Did your opinion of her change? I thought she was nice and no

10. Are you enjoying the story? What do you think is going to happen next? Yes

2. Star Wars is one of Auggie’s passions. Why do you think this is? Do you see any reasons for Auggie to identify with these characters, or to aspire to be like them? One of the reasons he likes starwars is probably because of how much he loves space. Yes because some of the characters don’t look like normal people and they are fine with it.

3. What questions did Julian ask August and why did August want to slide under the desk? If he liked Star Wars and about his rats tail

Why do you think Julian asked those questions?  Because he wanted to know more about him

4. Mr Browne’s September Precept was 'When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind'. Do you agree with this precept? Explain. Yes because it is not always the right thing to be right

5. In the chapter One to Ten, August is feeling mad with his mother but he's not sure why. Why do you think he was mad? Explain. Because he was mad at things going on in her life

6. August invited his whole class to his birthday party but not many kids came. Why do you think they didn't go? Would you have gone? Because of how unpopular he is. Yes I probably would of gone

8. Why does no one want to touch August? How do you think this makes him feel? Because of how he looks. It probably makes him feel left out.

9. Did your opinion of Jack Will change after August overheard him talking to Julian? Kind of because it is quite sad to say those things about someone no matter what they look like or who they are

10. Do you think August will go back to school? What do you think is going to happen next? I think that he will go back to school. I think that he will also stop talking to Jack.

2. Julian's mum photoshopped August out of the class photo. Was this a nice thing to do? No. How would you feel if someone photoshopped you out? I would feel really sad.

3. What do you make of Mrs Albans' statement that August is handicapped? That it is incorrect because how he looks doesn’t affect how he can do things.  Do you think she was correct when she said it places too much of a burden on the kids to befriend August? No I think it is just rude.

4. Mrs Alban also thought that August shouldn't have been allowed into Beecher Prep. Do you agree or disagree? Explain. I disagree because how he looks shouldn’t affect anything.

5. How did Jack handle being frozen out by all the boys at Beecher Prep? Has this ever happened to you? Yes How did you feel? Left out and confusing

6. Why was Justin nervous when he was going to meet Olivia's parents? How did it show? How did it work out? Yes because he doesn’t know what her parents would be like & because of Vias brother. It worked out great in the end.

7. Why does Justin greet the different members of the family in four different ways? Explain each greeting. How do you greet people? Because they have four different personalities. Depends on the person but usually by just waving and saying hi.

8. In the bus stop chapter Justin told Julian and his friends to leave Jack alone. Was this a good thing to do? Yes. What would you have done? The same probably

9. In the chapter titled Bird, Via states that she is 'an awful person'. Why do you think she feels this way? Because she doesn’t want August to come to her show. Is she right? No I wouldn’t really won’t any of my siblings to come to anythings of mine no matter what they look like.

Home Economics Spiced Apple Muffins

Yesterday in Home Economics we made Spiced Apple Muffins. The people I worked with were Rheanna and Tanaya. I think we worked well as a team and I was proud that our group didn't muck anything up and how well we were able to read the instructions on the recipe correctly. I think next time we could start working on presentation as they could be a little bit neater.
