100 Word Challenge

The 100 word challenge is a challenge where you have to right a 100 word story (or as close to 100 words) about a different topic each time. This time our topic was what  it would be like if we left for space now and returned in 65 years so this is my 100 story:

I left for space now and I came back 65 years later I would expect New Zealand to be no where near as beautiful as it is now.I would guess that the waters would be polluted, weather much more hotter, sea levels to have rise and some of our endangered species gone.I would expect that some places would be over populated and some places abandoned. I would expext an place that is no where as good as now. I guess you'll never know tho because people might actually want to make a positive change instead of just letting things happen.

Quail Island/Otamahua

On Wednesday the 25th of October all the year 8s went to Quail Island/Otamahua instead of going to Picton where we were supposed to go for a camp but we couldn't go because of the earthquakes. Quail Island/Otamahua is about a 10 minute ferry ride from Lyttleton/Ōhinehou harbour.
What Quail Island/Otamahua used to look like

Quail Island/Otamahua was used for many different things such as a leprosy colony, a leprosy colony is where people used to have to live if they had leprosy. This is because back then in the old days people used to think if you touch or come in contact with someone with leprosy you would get it. This island also has a place called The Ships Grave Yard. The Ships Grave Yard is where everyone would just dump their boats when they didn't want them anymore because they were broken or other things.

This trip links to our learning because our kete is Kaitiakitanga which is about guardianship so by visiting Quail Island/Otamahua we get to see how some volunteers are trying to help save and regrow native plants and animals.

Some successes that the volunteers have been able to do are make some native birds be able and come and live on this island. They have also made this island pest free and rubbish free.  They have also started planting native trees and plants to provide the right habitat for native animals and birds.

Some problems about Quail Island/Otamahua is that its going to be hard to keep this pest free and rubbish free as the more people visit the more likely chance that their is going to be rubbish and with low tides the pest can easily run across the mud flats.

I thought the trip to Quail Island/Otamahua was pretty good and I probably would go there again if I didn't have to stop every 2 minutes and talk in a group.

Here are some photos from the trip:

This has no effect just a normal photo that I don't know what happened :)
