Colour is used effectively to show the theme of rich vs poor.  This is demonstrated in the two scenes - District 12 at the start of the film and The Capitol as Katniss and Peeta arrive on the train.  In District 12 a natural, dull and dark palette of greens and browns is used to create a wild atmosphere. In The Capitol, a metallic, industrial colour palette of whites, greys and silvers is used to create a feeling of an advanced society. The purpose of this is to show the rich vs poor in the two societies. The Capitol has more bright colours and advanced buildings and technologies, whereas District 12 has dull colours to show their run-down buildings and overworn clothing. Combined with the use of costumes we are to see the divide between the wealthy in the Capitol and the poor of District 12. This reminds the audience of the Riot scene later in the film when the poor citizens of District 11 rebel against the rule of the Capitol.

Batteries

In science, we had to do some research on batteries. We had to find out the difference between a dry cell battery and a wet cell battery. Here is my research:

A wet cell battery contains a liquid electrolyte, for example, sulfuric acid whereas a dry cell battery does not contain any liquid. A wet cell battery is commonly used on aircrafts, in electric utilities, cellphones towers and for energy storage. Dry cell batteries are often rechargeable and have a weaker voltage than a wet cell battery.  Both batteries serve different purposes as items such as our phones, laptops, torches, and really any portable electronics use a dry cell battery while planes, cars, trucks, etc use a wet cell battery.

here are some diagrams of each type of batteries:

Making Boomerangs - Social Studies

In Social Studies we have been studying aboriginal artwork and the use of boomerangs. As apart of our work we had to paint a boomerang using the aboriginal style we have been learning about. On my boomerang, I used brown, white and a pinky-red as my colors. I used these colours as they are common colours used. Natural colours are often used in aboriginal artwork as products such as clay and charcoal were used instead of paint. Something that worked well while painting my boomerang was that the background colours turned out well. Next time I would probably have a better of a plan of what I am painting as I changed it halfway through. My boomerang was supposed to have squiggly lines dotted, representing snakes but the lines were harder to draw with the resources I had and turned out too big. Instead, I just drew lines on as I thought it would turn out better. Because I drew straight lines instead of squiggly lines the meaning of my boomerang couldn't be snakes, so after some research, I discovered that thing symbol closest to what my final product turned out to be was rain, so I guess that's what the meaning behind my boomerang is. I thought that making a boomerang to show our learning was fun as we often aren't able to do things like that. Here is the boomerang I created:

HungerGames Setting

Here is the work I did to show I understand settings in a film. Due to some complications, I had to screenshot parts instead of just inserting one picture, sorry for the inconvenience. Here is my work:

Art Research

In Art, we are researching different styles of street arts from different cultures. We had to do some drawings of different aspects of the things we saw in a couple of pictures. Here is a photo of the art I looked at:

t-shirts
camouflage and dark colors to make the game more interesting

all the same

we feel terrified/nervous for them
depersonalizes them

makes them feel the same
makes it easier to watch them die

The costumes are used effectively to show the imbalance between rich and poor, the Capitol and District 12, in Panam. For instance, this is seen in the reaping where the figure of Effie Trinket is juxtaposed to those of District 12. In this scene, the children of District 12 are wearing dull faded simple clothes whilst Effie wears a vibrant pink outfit with an extravagant wig and over the top make-up. This makes us understand how unwealthy the people of district 12 are compared to people living in the Capitol. The purpose of this is to show that life in all the districts is not as hard as it is in district 12. Coinciding with this is the use of setting. In District 12 everything is old and run down but in the Capitol, it is new, clean and colorful. The costume in the reaping scene can be juxtaposed to those worn by citizens of the capitol seen by Peeta and Katniss on the train.

Essay Brainstorms

Stories are better told through tv than books.
  • books encourage you to use your imagination
  • tv isn't as detailed as books
  •  = reading. reading = good for health
  • books helps you widen your vocab.
